His Excellency, Ambassador Musa John, High Commissioner
He challenged the Nigerians to “collectively resist the negative view of their country and people by Trinidad and Tobago.”
“We are a nation of 140 million and must not allow less than one per cent of us who are into negative things, to give us a bad name.
“There are bad elements among us living in Trinidad and Tobago but they are very few and should not be allowed to spoil our image here,” he said.
The High Commissioner said that the mission would continue to take steps to cleanse Nigerians of that negative tag.
He urged Nigerians to continue to behave well and be law abiding while assisting those with deviant behaviour to make amends.
He said that he would not hesitate to work with the Trinidadian authorities to bring to book any Nigerian who indulges in criminal activity, adding that he was not prepared to protect criminals.
Musa John Jen said that he had discussed with Nigerians resident there on several issues affecting them.
“I have no doubt that we will find solutions to all grey areas,” he said.
Members of the diplomatic corps, captains of industry, the media, representatives of the host government, friends of Nigeria and hundreds of Nigerians were at the Nigerian High Commission to celebrate the independence anniversary.
